A house in a tightly-held pocket of Redhead has hit the market for the first time since the 1970s.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home at 23 Ocean Street occupies a 695-square-metre block with vast ocean views from its position atop Redhead Bluff.

"It has been owned by the same family for more than 50 years," Altitude Real Estate listing agent David Ayliffe said.

"They bought the house not long after it was built in the 1970s, and it is a very tightly-held area.

"It's very peaceful and quiet."

The property is set to go under the hammer at auction on-site on September 28 at 10.30am.

A price guide was unavailable before the first open house inspection on September 7 at 1pm.

Redhead has recorded a string of big sales in the past 12 months, including a three-bedroom house with beach views at 13 High Street that fetched $3.35 million last month and a four-bedroom house, also on High Street, sold at auction for $2.55 million in October 2023.

The reserve is a popular spot during whale-watching season.

"In Redhead, if you want an ocean view, you are generally facing south," he said.

"This property is north-east facing which is generally more appealing with an ocean view and is a great spot for whale watching.

"You can see the whales passing from your front verandah."

The floorplan includes a double garage and a rumpus room on the lower level.

The top floor has three bedrooms, including a master with a walk-in robe and ensuite, and the main bathroom.

A sunroom at the rear has balcony access and the living and dining are anchored around the kitchen.

The backyard has an in-ground swimming pool, established fruit trees and a double garage with a workshop on the rear lane.

The median sale price of a house in Redhead is $1.46 million, according to CoreLogic.
