Bankstown
Cosmopolitan heart of the south-west
The Sydney suburb of Bankstown is a lively, central suburb of the south-west with a diverse population. Situated 19 kilometres from the CBD, Bankstown is well served by public transport. Already on a train line, it is being upgraded to a new Metro line and will have trains running every 4 minutes to the city.
It is not surprising then that apartments are becoming more popular in this well-located hub. The suburb also has a number of freestanding houses, mostly brick, with large blocks recently subdivided and now housing modern duplexes.
Bankstown is one of the more affordable suburbs so close to the city, and that has made it a popular stepping stone suburb for waves of migrants over the years. Apartment prices are accessible with the median unit price at $505,000 in June 2021 and the median house price is $1.05 million.
