Bulli

Between two mountains and the sea

A northern suburb of Wollongong, Bulli is nestled just under the Illawarra escarpment and has become quite trendy with its excellent beaches, shopping, walking/cycle track and cafes. It is thought that the word 'Bulli' is an Aboriginal word meaning 'two mountains' or 'place where the Christmas bush grows' or 'white grubs'. Originally a coal-mining village, Bulli has a historic miner's cottage, mining memorial and the Black Diamond Heritage Centre to view the history of coal. Bulli is bounded by the localities of Thirroul and Woonona as well as the sea on one side. The suburb has two public schools and a high school. About 77 per cent of properties are owned with families just outweighing singles. This suburb has plenty of potential with good road access from several directions. Up a winding pass from Bulli is Bulli Tops that has the Southern Gateway Centre with stunning views of the coastline.
