Central Desert Council

The Central Desert Region is a local government area in the Northern Territory, Australia. It is administered by the Central Desert Regional Council. The main towns within the region are Ti-Tree, Yuendumu, and Lajamanu. Covering an area of 281,312 square kilometres, the region had a population of 4,208 in June 2018. In October 2006, the Northern Territory Government announced the reform of local government areas to improve service delivery across the territory. The Central Desert council area exhibits a mix of family households, with Couples with Children being the top composition. The workforce is characterized by a variety of occupations, with a focus on community and personal service workers. Rent affordability is a key concern, as a majority of households spend less than 30% of income on rent. The population skews towards younger age groups, particularly those aged 0-19.
