MacDonnell Council

The MacDonnell Regional Council is a local government area in the Northern Territory, Australia, covering an area of 268,329 square kilometres. As of June 2018, it had an estimated population of 6,863 people. The LGA borders with South Australia, specifically with Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara in the southwest and the Pastoral Unincorporated Area in the southeast. Enclaves within the LGA include Alice Springs and Yulara. In October 2006, the Northern Territory Government announced the reform of local government areas, aiming to improve and expand service delivery by establishing eleven new shires. The council area of MacDonnell has a significant portion of households with mortgage and rent payments within affordable limits. The population is spread across various age groups, with a notable presence in community and personal service occupations. Additionally, the area has a mix of income levels and diverse tenure types among occupied dwellings.
