Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yunkunytjatjara Council
Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara, also known as APY, is a sparsely-populated local government area in the remote north west of South Australia. The area is inhabited by the Aṉangu people, including the Pitjantjatjara, Yankunytjatjara, and Ngaanyatjarra peoples. Governance of the area is determined by the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Land Rights Act 1981, with an elected executive board reporting to the Premier of South Australia. The APY's administration centre is located at Umuwa. A large portion of the APY Lands was formerly the North-West Aboriginal Reserve.
In Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yunkunytjatjara, most households rent their dwellings, while a small percentage own outright. Families with children form the largest family composition, followed by single parents. The area has a predominantly young population, with a notable presence of professionals and community service workers in the workforce.
