Claremont Council
Claremont is a western suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located on the north bank of the Swan River. Before European settlement, the Noongar people utilized the area for water, fishing, and catching waterfowl. In 1830, John Butler established an inn at Freshwater Bay to attract travellers on the road from Perth to Fremantle. A wetland in the area was later named Butler's Swamp, which eventually became Lake Claremont. Construction of the Fremantle Road began after the arrival of convicts in the colony in 1850.
In Claremont, a significant portion of households have mortgage repayments within 30% of income, while a considerable number fall into the higher rent payment bracket. The area has a varied income distribution, with a notable presence of professionals and managers in the workforce. The population skews towards older age groups, and the top industries include professional services and real estate.
