The Shire of Dalwallinu is located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 250 kilometres north-northeast of Perth. Covering an area of 7,236 square kilometres, the Shire's seat of government is in the town of Dalwallinu. The area was originally part of the Moora and Upper Irwin Road Districts before becoming the Dalwallinu Road District on 2 June 1916. It was later established as a shire on 1 July 1961 under the Local Government Act 1960.
