The Shire of Dowerin is located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 160 kilometres northeast of Perth. It covers an area of 1,847 square kilometres and its seat of government is the town of Dowerin. The area was originally gazetted as the Dowerin Road District on 3 November 1911, and became a shire on 1 July 1961. The council made the decision to dissolve Wards in December 2016.
Dowerin council area exhibits a varied occupational landscape, with managers, labourers, and technicians being prominent. The population skews towards older age groups, with over 40% aged above 50. Affordable mortgage repayments are prevalent among households, while agriculture and real estate services are key industries.
