The Shire of Leonora is located in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, approximately 240 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie and 830 kilometres northeast of Perth. Covering an area of 32,189 square kilometres, the town of Leonora serves as the seat of government for the Shire. Originally part of the North Coolgardie Road District, Leonora became its own municipality in 1900. The Shire of Leonora was established on May 31, 1912, originating from the Mount Malcolm Road District after the North Coolgardie Road District was divided into three separate road districts.
