The Shire of Mingenew is located in the Mid West region of Western Australia, approximately 110 kilometres southeast of Geraldton and 370 kilometres north of Perth. Covering an area of 1,939 square kilometres, the town of Mingenew serves as the seat of government for the Shire. Initially established as the Upper Irwin Road District in 1901, it was later renamed the Mingenew Road District in 1919. Over the years, the Shire of Mingenew underwent boundary changes, losing a significant portion of its land area to neighboring districts between 1923 and 1928.
