The Shire of Tammin is located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, with its seat of government in the town of Tammin. The town is situated approximately 80 kilometres west of Merredin and 180 kilometres east of Perth. The area was originally governed by the Meckering Road Board before becoming the Tammin Road District in 1948. It officially became a shire on 1 July 1961 under the Local Government Act 1960, which reformed all remaining road districts into shires.
In Tammin, a considerable percentage of households have mortgage and rent payments within affordable limits. The population is skewed towards older age groups, with a majority above 50 years. The area exhibits a mix of tenure types, with a notable proportion of outright homeowners. The council area has a diverse range of occupations and industries, with a significant presence of agriculture and construction businesses.
