The Shire of Three Springs is located in the Mid West region of Western Australia, approximately 310 kilometres north of Perth. Covering an area of 2,657 square kilometres, the Shire's seat of government is in the town of Three Springs. The Three Springs Road District was established in 1928 from parts of neighboring road districts and became a shire in 1961 under the Local Government Act 1960. In 2009, there was a proposal for the Shire of Three Springs to amalgamate with other nearby shires.
