The Shire of Wickepin is located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, east of Narrogin and approximately 220 kilometres southeast of Perth. Covering an area of 2,042 square kilometres, the Shire's seat of government is in the town of Wickepin. The area was originally established as the Wickepin Road District on 19 February 1909, with a chairman, secretary, and seven members. It later became a shire on 1 July 1961 under the Local Government Act 1960, which transformed all remaining road districts into shires.
The Wickepin council area has a balanced distribution of age groups, with a significant proportion of residents aged above 50. The income distribution shows a mix of lower to higher income brackets, with a notable presence of managers and trade workers in the workforce.
