The Shire of Williams is located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 161 kilometres southeast of Perth. It covers an area of 2,306 square kilometres and its administrative center is the town of Williams. The area was originally established as the Williams Road District on 12 February 1871 and later became a shire on 1 July 1961 under the Local Government Act 1960. Prior to 2002, the Shire was divided into three wards - North West, North East, and Central.
In Williams, a notable portion of residents own their homes outright, while others are purchasers or renters. The population is spread across various age groups, with a significant percentage above 50 years old. The area's income distribution ranges from lower to higher brackets, with a focus on industries like agriculture, manufacturing, and transport.
