ON THE MARKET: Chris Joannou has listed his Carrington home for sale.

Chris Joannou has listed his family home in Carrington.

The former Silverchair bassist is relocating to Coffs Harbour to be closer to his wife's family, prompting the sale of their home of eight years.

However, he expects to make regular visits to Newcastle, where he still oversees a number of venues including the Criterion Hotel and Flotilla.

The three-bedroom home is tucked around the corner from the Carrington Bowls Club and boasts leadlight windows, ornate ceilings and pine floors.

Joannou said the home's proximity to nearby restaurants, Honeysuckle and the marina made it an ideal launching pad.

"There's heaps about that place that we'll miss," Joannou said.

"You definitely get that village community vibe, but you can still be eating at some of Newcastle's best restaurants in five or 10 minutes.

"We didn't take the decision lightly ... it's a bit of a new outlook and change of pace, but we're loving it."

The property retains many period features including leadlight windows and ornate ceilings.

Set on 508 square metres, the home at 57 Denison Street dates back to around 1910.

It was renovated shortly before Joannou bought it in 2014, and comes with DA approval for a swimming pool and an additional accommodation space above the double garage.

Joannou said it had been the home's personality that initially drew him to the property.

"It was just one of those places, as soon as we saw it we fell in love with it," Joannou said.

"That block is like a football field for Carrington and having double garage and rear lane access [was great].

"It's got heaps of charm and character and everything that we use on a daily basis is at our doorstep."

The property has been listed with Harcourts Newcastle's Joel Soldado, and will have its first open home at 12.30pm Saturday ahead of an August 24 auction.

A price guide has not been released, however expectations are understood to be north of $1.5 million.

The home comes with a large double garage.

"It's such a pretty home," Mr Soldado said.

"As soon as you walk through it's big wide hallways, the rooms are all good proportions and it just feels lovely.

"I believe it's going to pull on heartstrings and those emotional buyers that are looking for a Federation home I think will be very interested in this one."

Joannou also sold the premises of popular Newcastle West venue The Edwards, which he part-owned with his parents David and Sue, in May.

The Parry Street venue, which will continue to run as usual, sold to a Sydney-based investor for $4,051,000 at auction.
