Barcoo Council

The Shire of Barcoo is a local government area in Central West Queensland, Australia with a population of 267 people as of June 2018. It covers an area of 61,830 square kilometres (23,872.7 sq mi) and has been in existence since 1887. The shire is named after the Barcoo River, which meets the Thomson River in the region to form Cooper Creek. The main industries in the area are beef production and opal mining, with some development of oil and gas reserves also taking place.
