Doomadgee Council

Doomadgee is a town and locality in the Aboriginal Shire of Doomadgee, Queensland, Australia. It is a mostly Indigenous community located about 140 kilometres from the Northern Territory border and 93 kilometres west of Burketown. The settlement originated with the establishment of the Doomadgee Mission in 1933, which later moved to Nicholson River in 1936. According to the 2016 census, Doomadgee had a population of 1405 people. The Waanyi and Ganggalidda (Yukulta) people are the recognised traditional owners of the region surrounding Doomadgee. The council area of Doomadgee has a diverse workforce, with professionals and community service workers being prominent. Families in family households are mainly composed of couples with children. The economy is driven by industries such as agriculture, forestry, and fishing, with a substantial number of households renting their dwellings.
