Gympie
Two hours’ drive from Brisbane and just up the road from famous Noosa Beach, the Gympie region has its own identity
Gympie is a predominantly rural region that’s fast becoming a popular tourist attraction with plenty to see and do. It’s a large region of contrasts with beautiful beaches, unspoiled coastlines, majestic hinterlands, rural and lush rolling hills and stunning nature.
The area covers Cooloola Coast, home to Rainbow Beach and Tin Can Bay as well as the pioneering towns of Kilkivan and Goomeri, and to the south, the rural communities of Mary Valley, home to a variety of fresh local produce.
In the middle is the commercial hub and heritage town of Gympie with a gold mining history, filled with elegant turn of the century buildings and a succession of charming Queenslander homes.
Back in 1867, gold was first discovered in Gympie and it became the richest town in Queensland. Now, its main attractions are the museums, art gallery, parks and heritage railway which are reminiscent of a bygone era.
Gympie also has a modern cafe culture, quaint antique and specialty shops and weekend markets which are a big drawcard to the beautiful area.
