Hope Vale is a town located within the Aboriginal Shire of Hope Vale and a coastal locality split between the Aboriginal Shire of Hope Vale and the Shire of Cook in Queensland, Australia. It is an Aboriginal community with a population of 1,015 people according to the 2016 census. The town is situated on Cape York Peninsula, approximately 46 kilometers northwest of Cooktown by road. Hope Vale is also located about 10 kilometers off the Battlecamp Road, which leads to Rinyirru National Park and Laura. The history of Hope Vale dates back to the establishment of the Elim Aboriginal Mission by Johann Flierl, a missionary of the Lutheran Church, in 1895 on the beach of the north shore of Cape Bedford.
