The Northern Peninsula Area Region is a local government area in Far North Queensland, Australia, created in March 2008 out of three Aboriginal Shires and two autonomous Island Councils. It covers areas on the northwestern coast of Cape York Peninsula. In June 2018, the area had a population of 3,069. Luthigh and Uradhi are Australian Aboriginal languages spoken within the region. The traditional language area for Luthigh includes landscape within the local government boundaries of the Cook Shire. Uradhi is an Australian Aboriginal language of the Western Cape York Peninsula.
The council area has a diverse occupation profile, with community and personal service workers being the most common. Construction, rental, and real estate services are the top industries. Rent affordability is a concern, with a notable percentage of households spending more than 30% of their income on rent.
