Yarrabah Council

The Aboriginal Shire of Yarrabah is a special local government area located in Far North Queensland, Australia. It was originally established as an Anglican Mission in 1892, with Aboriginal people from the region being drawn or relocated to the mission settlement. The Gungganydji people were the main group to be settled in the area. Yarrabah is situated east and southeast of Cairns on Cape Grafton. It is managed under a Deed of Grant in Trust under the Local Government (Community Government Areas) Act 2004. Yarrabah council area's economy is driven by a mix of industries including construction, administrative services, healthcare, agriculture, and manufacturing. The population skews towards a younger demographic, with a substantial percentage under 20 years old. Housing affordability is a mixed picture, with most households having manageable mortgage repayments but a notable portion facing high rent burdens.
