Collingwood
An inner-city traditionally working class area turned hip
Collingwood
Just north of the city and known for its workers' cottages and converted warehouses, Collingwood has an illustrious history.
A largely working class area, Collingwood was the premier location for trades, such as factories, breweries, quarries and brickmaking works. A little known fact is Collingwood was the birthplace of one of our major grocery chains, Coles.
One of the oldest suburbs in Melbourne, Collingwood is located just three kilometres from the city centre. Named after Baron Collingwood, it’s known for its historical buildings, and a diverse mix of converted warehouse and factory apartments, older cottages, and modern townhouses.
The main street, Smith St is full of restaurants, pubs, bars and live music venues. It’s also home to Melbourne’s rag trade with multiple fashion businesses setting up shop. Collingwood is well regarded as a hotspot for music and fashion.
Collingwood is also known for its AFL Football team, one of the oldest in the league, the Collingwood Football Club, affectionately known as the mighty pies.
