Doreen
In the midst of a greenbelt, Doreen is on the outer fringe of Melbourne but offers all the services you need.
Doreen is very green and quite hilly and is surrounded by the foothills of the Yarra Ranges to the east and north and the forested banks of the Plenty River to the west.
As part of it being on the urban fringe it has a wide variety of animal life including bird life. To the north is Yan Yean Reservoir, which is the oldest reservoir in Melbourne.
Some 28kms north east of Melbourne’s CBD, Doreen offers a good range of schools and ample shopping and facilities.
You will notice that Doreen can be divided into two distinct areas - to the east remains very rural and to the west is the more developed areas of suburban and housing facilities which have been expanding since the 1990’s.
Nearby Mernda train station, which opened in 2018, offers access to Melbourne city, approximately 1hr and 20 minutes away.
On the night of the 2016 census, 81 per cent of people living in Doreen were born in Australia; 2.9 per cent were born in England (after that there was a smattering of New Zealanders, Indians, Italians and Sri Lankans).
