Long Gully

Is it time for you to blend in with the local characters?

Do you prefer real people with modest homes, along with a terrific sense of community and fierce loyalty to ‘their’ place? Then Long Gully, a suburb of Bendigo in Victoria, is right for you. With a population of around 3500, you can immerse yourself in daily life with a trip to the Long Gully Splash pool in the warmer months, the Neighbourhood House or the Community Centre when you need a lift, or a trip down memory lane at the Salvos Store in Whip Court. It’s a very early part of Bendigo’s historical goldfields, with street names like Orr Street, Shaft and Poppet Street. You know you’re in the land of old gold diggings, a part of the once proud wealth creation of Bendigo’s gold mining booms. Even Banjo Patterson gets a look-in with his famous The Man from Ironbark poem, with the peppercorn tree where he is said to have sat under to write it, not far from the Manchester Arms Hotel. The kids can attend the St Peters Primary School, and spend the weekends scratching in the dirt on the corner of Comet and Poulston Streets where the Comet and Kk Diggings shafts are at rest.
