Just 175 kilometres north of Melbourne, its fresh produce includes stone fruit, cherries, apples, pears, grapes, olives and tomatoes, and it is little wonder the region is called the food bowl of Australia, or that the Shepparton Preserving Company (SPC Ardmona) outlet is still a big drawcard for the town.

Places worth a visit such as the art gallery and Seven Creeks Chocolate Shop, and Locheilan Farmhouse Cheese shop, will give your senses a real treat.

Kids will adore the water park and skate park, plus fishing and camping beside the Goulburn River.

Schools in the area are mainly public, but there are a couple of private ones, notably Goulburn Valley Grammar, and a newly revamped La Trobe university in the CBD area.
