Warrnambool
If you want coast with a country feel then Warrnambool on the Great Ocean Road offers a quieter style of sea change
Warrnambool
There’s usually something going on in Warrnambool and if you’re not inclined to just while away your spare time doing beach walks you’ll find plenty of activity to keep you occupied.
Much of the action is centred around the speedway, racing club and greyhound track and the highly rated Warrnambool Golf Club. There are a smattering of festivals staged during the year. Playground facilities are good with Lake Pertrobe the centrepiece.
This is primarily agriculture and dairy country however also attracts tourist visitation due to its location near the end of the Great Ocean Road. Thirty kilometres to the east is the quaint seaside village of Port Fairy. A little further, about 185kms either east or west is Mt Gambier and Geelong respectively.
If you want the beach life without the heat Warrnambool offers a moderate oceanic climate but is usually accompanied by a breeze (can get quite windy). Traffic never gets too heavy and it’s easy to get around and find parking.
There are a plethora of schools to choose from with around 10 primaries, two public secondaries and two private colleges.
Warrnambool is the setting and filming location of the 2015 film Oddball, starring Shane Jacobson.
