Yarrawonga
Food lovers, water lovers or someone looking to reside in a border town should look no further than Yarrawonga, 265kms north of Melbourne.
Yarrawonga’s main attraction is Lake Mulwala, which was formed by the damming of the Murray River, and the region has a burgeoning farm gate industry with an edible bounty of cheeses, wines, liqueurs, olives, oils, fruit, vegetables, beef, garlic, preserves and chocolate all waiting to be sampled.
With a population of around 8000 people it has all the services that you would expect, with additional offerings in the nearby regional cities of Shepparton (1 hour, 80kms) or Wangaratta (45 mins, 60kms).
There are two primary schools, a primary through to Year 12 college and another secondary college in the town.
Plenty of open space and fresh air is one of the things you’ll enjoy here, along with lake and river views and just about every water sport you can imagine.
A club orientated town, there’s no shortage of choice with water ski, rowing, bowls golf, tennis and car clubs sure to get your social life off to a good start.
Often referred to as Yarrawonga Mulwala, this is a tourism region so expect to see an influx of visitors during the school holidays season and plan to allow just a little extra time to do your daily shopping or errands.
