Former St George Illawarra Dragons player and New Zealand rugby league international Nathan Fien has sold his long-time Thirroul property for $4,800,000.

The five-bedroom, two-bathroom home, which sits on 568 square metres, sold off-market in February.

Selling agent, Andrew Hedley from One Agency Kane Downie Thirroul was unable to comment on the sale.

However, according to the online marketing, the "stunning beachside renovated character home sold off market to a client on our database".

CoreLogic records show the home was built in 1910, and Fien purchased it in 2012 for $850,000.

CoreLogic records also show it sold on February 16 for $4,800,000.

The 2012 marketing described 'Woodville' as an "iconic and charming federation family residence set on perfectly positioned north-facing garden lot, minutes level walk to patrolled surf beach, pool, station, school and village".

During a journeyman National Rugby League career in both the halves and at hooker that spanned more than 270 games, Fien played for the North Queensland Cowboys, New Zealand Warriors and the Dragons.

He was a member of the Dragons' 2010 premiership winning side and retired in 2013.

Mt Isa-born Fien also represented Queensland in the State of Origin arena, before later playing 22 Test matches for New Zealand.

Fien was at the centre of the 'Grannygate' debacle in 2006.

The Kiwis had initially claimed Australian-born Fien's grandmother was born in New Zealand, which would have allowed him to switch allegiances, but it was later revealed the birth certificate he provided belonged to his great-grandmother.

The Rugby League International Federation panel that investigated the case found the New Zealand Rugby League was aware the certificate belonged to Fien's great-grandmother, which made him ineligible for selection, but did not disclose the fact.

Since retiring from the NRL he's been involved in coaching in Illawarra rugby league with the Collegians and Thirroul clubs.

According to CoreLogic, the median sales price of houses in the area is $1,885,000.
