The Figtree home has undergone extensive renovations inside and out.

A spectacularly renovated Figtree home has sold for $900,000 more than it was bought for just over a year ago.

The four-bedroom home last changed hands in February 2021 for $1.2 million and sold last Thursday for $2 million according to Corelogic.

Selling agent Laila Dahab of Betschwar & Co, said an extensive renovation worth around $500,000, had contributed to the outstanding result.

"That included a new bedroom and study, fireplace, spa and refurbished deck along with extensive landscaping work in the garden including the addition of a boardwalk," she said.

Situated in the sought after Redgum Ridge Estate section of the suburb the home sold to a Wollongong family after being sold by experienced renovators.

The living area now features a fireplace with views to the deck and its own spa.

The current median house price for Figtree sits at $1.02 million.

The Figtree sale was just one of 18 auctions in the Illawarra over the past week, with 14 selling and a clearance rate of 77.8 per cent according to Corelogic.

In Kiama a former public housing three-bedroom property sold for $1.512 million to a Sydney family who plan to make the modest cottage their holiday home.

While a two-bedroom unit in the heart of Kiama in Terralong Street sold for $770,000.

The former Housing Commission home, that had been held in private hands, sold for $1.512 million.

Selling agent Olivia Anstee of Ray White Kiama said the Orana Avenue house was hotly contested at auction.

"It is a prized little pocket on the eastside that is popular with both holiday home buyers and those looking for a permanent home," she said.

The property sold to a young family from Sydney who plan to renovate and use it as a holiday home.

Meanwhile the two-bedroom unit in Terralong Street, just one of two in a combined residential and commercial block, was also bought by people who intend to use it as a holiday home.

"It is a great spot for someone to have a little bolthole to get out of Sydney and this place had been a long-held holiday unit," said Ms Anstee.

"People are favouring smaller strata blocks for this."
